Working at a zoo provides a priceless opportunity to help the community further conservation, one person at a time.
The conservation committee works jointly with other Philadelphia Zoo affiliates such as the education and conservation departments, the Docent Council, and the Junior Zoo Apprentice Program, in order to promote our dual missions in the zoo community. Through free scheduled lectures open to the public and outreach events on zoo grounds such as Earth Day, International Migratory Bird Day and Lemur Appreciation Day, our conservation committee hopes to foster stewardship of the natural world.
This committee also oversees the designation of over $2000 in conservation funds to worthy organizations identified by AAZK members through a competitive process. Every year, AAZK dollars are budgeted so that organizations on the cutting-edge of conservation can receive monetary support.
The AAZK Conservation and Education Committee is pleased to announce the results of our annual conservation dispersal. Members of the C&E committee awarded a total amount of $2000 to 6 conservation organizations this year after careful discussions and scorings. We thank all for their continued support!
