The American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK) is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving the husbandry of captive animals and supporting conservation efforts worldwide. There are more than 40 individual chapters of AAZK across the country.
The Greater Philadelphia Chapter of AAZK consists of staff and volunteers from the Philadelphia Zoo and several other nearby facilities, including Delaware Valley College and Elmwood Park Zoo. We currently have over 40 members from a wide variety of departments, including Education, Purchasing, Animal, Administrative, and Veterinary.
Our chapter is committed to supporting conservation efforts both locally and internationally. Every year, a large portion of our budget is used to finance a variety of conservation and education projects around the world.
We also strive to improve the husbandry of the animals kept within our facilities. In addition to making and buying enrichment devices, we share advice and information with other keepers nationwide regarding training, enrichment, diet, medical information, etc.
